Instalace Jana Fabiána se zaobírá transformací hodnot a vztahů v kontextu přeměny socio-kulturního prostoru v období moderny. Poukazuje na rozpojení tradiční vazby mezi výrobou a spotřebou, jakožto průvodního rysu současné společnosti a zároveň se alespoň v symbolické rovině pokouší zvrátit proces neustálého odcizování infiltrací tradičně venkovských prvků do urbánního prostředí.
Téma urbanizace a s ním spjaté mizení chovu domácích zvířat je ale autorovi zároveň záminkou k tomu, akcentovat lokální významové sedimenty, k čemuž podvratně využívá technické prostory Galerie Plato a blízkou budovu bývalých Jatek, které vnímá jako symboly fluidní identity místa a neustávající redistribuce člověka. V kulisách transformace, umocněné také „potiskem“ plotu kolem objektu jatek, na kterém se někdejší funkce budovy zkratkovitě konfrontuje s jejím příštím využitím (minulost vs. budoucnost), je to proto trochu překvapivě právě Fabiánova dočasná instalace, jež – navzdory určité míře nepatřičnosti – vzbuzuje dojem jedné z nemnoha zdejších konstant.

Jan Fabián
* 1978 v Českých Budějovicích, žije a pracuje v Praze
Jan Fabián je absolvent Vysoké školy uměleckoprůmyslové v Praze, ateliéru Sklo v architektuře Mariana Karla (1997–2003). Ve své tvorbě akcentuje etické rozměry díla a motivuje k zamyšlení nad automatizovanými procesy nebo upozorňuje na nevyrovnané vztahy vůči životnímu prostředí. Vychází z pozorování skutečnosti a zároveň patří k trvalým hledačům smyslu bez zbytečné tragické zátěže (Denisa Bytelová). Pohybuje se mezi prostorovou tvorbou, architekturou, designem a digitálním obrazem. Od roku 2014 působí jako odborný asistent Ústavu výtvarné tvorby na Fakultě architektury Českého vysokého učení technického v Praze v oboru Prostorová tvorba.
Remembering the Future
Jan Fabián’s installation deals with the transformation of values and relationships in the context of the transformation of socio-cultural space in modern times. It points to the disconnection of the traditional link between production and consumption as an accompanying feature of contemporary society, attempting, at least at a symbolic level, to reverse the process of continuous alienation of traditional rural elements infiltrating into the urban environment. The artist also uses the theme of urbanisation and the associated disappearance of domestic animal husbandry as a pretext to accentuate local meaning sediments, subversively utilising the technical premises of the Plato Gallery and the nearby building of the former slaughterhouse, which he perceives as symbols of the fluid identity of the place and continuous redistribution of human beings. In the backdrop of transformation, enhanced by the “print” of the fence around the slaughterhouse premises, where the former function of the building is concisely confronted with its next use (past vs future), it is therefore surprisingly Fabián’s temporary installation that – despite a certain degree of impropriety – gives the impression of one of the few constants here.

* 1978 in České Budějovice, lives and works in Prague
Jan Fabián is a graduate of Marian Karel’s Studio of Glass in Architecture at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (1997–2003). In his work, he accentuates the ethical dimensions of the work of art, encouraging reflection on automated processes or pointing out unbalanced relationships with the environment. Relying on observation of reality, he is a permanent seeker of meaning without unnecessary tragic burden (Denisa Bytelová). His work combines spatial creation, architecture, design and digital image. Since 2014 he has been working as a Spatial Creation lecturer at the Institute of Fine Arts at the Faculty of Architecture, Czech Technical University in Prague.
